Oh yeah, it's wild!

So I've been in a creative funk lately, but this week I've a had this urge to get back on a roll. I've got about four things I'm doing at once. I don't know why I just can't finish one thing before I move onto the next, ok well a lot of times I do. But when I get frustrated with something, I set it aside and come back to it later, sometimes way later, and then I start something else. So this project I finished in just an hour, maybe less. It's a thrift store find that started as a pillow case. I was going to do something else with it, but I thought I needed to spice up my wardrobe a bit. I think everyone should have at least something animal print. Whether it's a purse, shoes, belt, or a shirt/dress. Yep, a shirt/dress. I went the extreme!! I'm wearing it as a shirt in these pics. I can actually pull it down past my bottom and I would wear it as a dress in leggings or tights, neither of which I wanted to wear in this heat!

I didn't want to just take a picture of my chest, I really wanted to show I made it a heart shape.

The before was just a pillow case. I trimmed a little off the bottom, used it for the straps. Hemmed, and adjusted. Pretty easy this one.

a new high chair cushion

Today my mom and I went out to look for a few things. I wasn't really looking for anything, just hanging out with my mom helping her finds what she needed. Along the trip of stores, we stopped at a thrift store. Of coarse there were a few things I liked and got, all baby stuff too. The store was a little over priced. I'm sorry but I'm not gonna pay $10 for a used pair of shorts. But the few things I did get was a pretty good deal. One including a high chair. Yes I know Cora is now 7 months old and didn't have a high chair. I was using the booster seat I had. I couldn't find one I liked for a decent price. I happened to see this high chair crammed in between other crap. I immediately saw potential. It was grungy, dirty, old, and plain. I originally wanted a really nice wooden one that would match the rest of our furniture, but after 7 months of not finding what I wanted, I decided I could work with this. Heck! It was only $7. So I took it home, cleaned it up, and made a new cover for the cushion.

I didn't take pictures before I cleaned it, I forgot. But it was very icky.

There were rips and stains all over the cushion.

This is the after.

I happened to have fabric that I loved already.

I added a little bit more of fabric around the back to hold up the cushion better.

I also made it so it's removable. A must with a messy, eating baby so I can throw it in the wash.

It wasn't actually that hard to make because I just used the pattern from the original cover. I may make one or two more, so when I'm washing one I can use the other.
She looks so tiny in her new chair!

She definitely has a lot more room to bang her hands on the tray.

Bath Time

We took a bath in the sink this evening. She really enjoys bath time. And she loves to have her ducky to play with, until she figured out splashing is just as fun!

Baby Nursery

I realized that I never took pictures of the nursery. It's not complete yet, there's still things we're waiting on and a couple little projects I want to do. But for the most part you can't tell it's not complete, so I went ahead and took some pictures of it.

My sister-in-law made this wreath when Cora was born. So cute!
I was kinda going for a bird, garden theme with purple and yellow. But turned into a butterfly, flower, bird, pink, purple, yellow theme.

Please don't mind the storage under the crib. Small house gotta use all the spaces.

I love the lighting in here in the afternoon.

I'm thinking of making a skirt cover for the changing table and a cushion for the toy box since Joel and I will both be in here and having another seat would be nice.

These are all the blankets made for Cora, a couple were made for me when I was little too.

I made this mobile for her.

The pillow in the chair was made and matches a blanket as well.

I got this rocking horse at a garage sale for $0.50.

Summer Vacation

Hello! I'm back from vacation. It was a wonderful time and first vacation for Cora. I took lots of pictures to document, although I forgot my camera so had to use my G-ma's. We spent time with my grandma where she lives, Bob Hope Village in Florida. It's a retirement home for mostly widowed Airforce wives. I didn't know how my grandma could stand being so far away from everyone she new, but after meeting all her friends down there and all the activities she goes to, I now know why. Down there she is a social butterfly, even more so when we came down with Cora. The ladies don't see babies very often and flocked to her. Don't worry about me! Just kidding, I didn't mind.

Grandma has her own apartment with a garden and everything. This had to be one of the cheapest vacations I've ever been on. We stayed with Grandma, cooked our own meals (only eating out a couple times), and drove 16 hours (blah). Cora did surprisingly well, although the last day traveling she pretty much had it and was a bit fussy.

Grandma is conveniently located about 20 minutes from the beach and far enough from all the tourist traffic. And of course we had to hit up the beach while we where down there. But besides that we went to a luau, walked the boardwalk, watched the Bachelorette, made homemade spaghetti, chicken strips, and Jess's crab salad (Yum!), went to Destin and drank, I mean ate, at Harry T's (highly recommend), Jess found out where she wanted to get married, and had a birthday party for Grandma. I think I could've stayed another day or two but home was calling our names (aka, husband).

If there was any bad experience or something I recommend not doing, it would be don't stop on the east side of Memphis at a Bp gas station to pee. Very ghetto and the worst bathroom I have ever seen. The clerk being screened in behind the counter should've been my first clue, the bathroom being located at the end of a dark hallway should've been my second. I won't go into details, it would just gross you out too much. I should've just squeezed my legs together until we found another gas station to stop in. Anyways, here are some pictures! More are on my facebook page.
